How hard can it be? It’s just a fucking house, Regina thought as she took the staircase two steps at a time.

But once she started down the hallways on the upper floors, she realised that it could be very hard. Every damn corridor looked the same and there were many of them. The wood panelling and floors blended together to a homogenous brown mass as she walked and walked and walked. She opened doors to find strange little parlours, studies, children’s bedrooms, guest rooms, broom closets…

More than once, she stumbled on a locked door and got ready to pick it before a voice from inside told her that it was occupied.

At one point, she must have made her way to the kitchens, because two of the waitstaff stopped to ask if she was lost.

“I suspect I’ve accidentally made my way to a different house,” she said dryly.

The waiter laughed and said:

“Not quite yet. Go back that way and you should be able to find your way to the party.”

She thanked him, but it wasn’t exactly like she wanted to get back to the party again. After all, Enzo was there. The last thing she wanted to do was to creep back and tell him he was right and she needed his help.

Wouldn’t he enjoy that, she thought, fuming.

So instead of going back to the party, she resolutely took the first door on her right and made it… right back where she didn’t want to be.

Fucking rich people and their fucking houses…

She gritted her teeth and looked around for Enzo—it was better to get it over with—when a shadow fell over her and she looked up at the face of the last person she wanted to see. Well, besides Enzo.

“Thought I recognised you,” Doriano Montanari said with a cold glare. “What are you doing here?”

Gina straightened her back and glanced around quickly. The room was full of people. Ms. Antonini was there, as was a whole room full of potential clients.

“I don’t think we’ve had the pleasure of an introduction. Catarina Voltorini” she said, using the fake name Enzo had written on her invitation.

He shook his head and laughed bitterly.

“We both know that’s bullshit, Regina.”

“Goodness, have you already had too much to drink?” she asked. “Save some for later, Mr. Whatever-Your-Name is.”

“Need me to get naked?” he asked, getting uncomfortably close. “Maybe then you’d recognise me.”

“I don’t think anyone here would like to be blinded, so you’d better not,” she said through gritted teeth.

She tried to step away, but he blocked her path. He lowered his voice to a whisper:

“That’s not the tone you used to take when I got you naked.”

She took a step forward, forgetting all about the many people who might hear her.

“And this isn’t the tone you took when I beat your ugly face to a pulp, you disgusting piece of shit.”

“There she is,” he said, his voice was shaking with barely concealed anger. “The psycho bitch we all know and love. What are you doing here?”

“That’s none of your business.”

“You’d better get out.”

“I have a job to do, asshole. Now get out of my way.”

She shoved her way past him, making her way towards Enzo, when Doriano said under his breath:

“Sure… Say hi to Flora from me.”

Regina was pretty sure she blacked out. The only thing she could sense was the rush of blood in her ears, the white-hot rage that shot through her, her hand that curled into a fist and stormed towards his face. It only stopped just short of him, when a warm, steady hand curled around hers and drew her back.

“Catarina, there you are. I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”

Gina whirled to see Enzo looking down on her. He held her hand firmly and his blue eyes held a warning.

“You promised me that dance,” he said and then he let his eyes drift towards Doriano and lazily said. “You don’t mind, do you, Doriano?”

“She’s all yours,” he said.

Enzo dragged her out onto the floor and put a hand on her waist, moving her around in lazy circles. His hand tightened around hers.

“Got lost?” he asked.

She muttered a few curses under her breath, not in any state to speak right now.

“I wouldn’t advice punching Montanari in front of all these people,” Enzo said in a low voice.

“What? You don’t want me to punch your buddy?”

His face grew surprisingly angry. “That man is not my friend.” He got it under control quickly and was more measured when he spoke again. “It’s more that if you do it, your reputation will be irreparably damaged in our social circle.”

“I’ve hurt him before,” she said. “Turned out pretty well.”

“But did you do it in front of a room full of his friends and family?” Gina went quiet and Enzo continued: “I thought not. Believe me when I say I would like nothing more than to let you punch him, but right now you can’t afford to do it. Punch him and you’ll never have another client of note again.”

Doriano was at the other end of the room, talking to a sleazy-looking guy. Every now and again, he looked triumphantly over at her. When Gina twisted towards him, she became aware of Enzo’s hand on her lower back, warm and solid. His eyes, when she met them, were calm. Ignore it, they said, keep your attention on me.

“What’s it to you if I ruin my reputation?” she asked.

“It wouldn’t help me if you did, and besides, I never wished you ill.”

“More like you don’t give a damn about me.”

His mouth softened into a smile. “If I didn’t give a damn, I would have let you do it.”

For a moment, she was transported back in time through looking into his friendly, blue eyes. He looked like himself, like he had before dumping her, when they talked and talked for hours about nothing in particular.

You’re being an idiot, she chided herself.

This was a fluke, or an attempt at throwing her off. He was playing with her, same as he had been then.

She looked away from his eyes and said:

“I did get lost.” When his mouth quirked into what promised to be an arrogant smile, she scowled and interrupted: “And don’t you fucking dare say I told you so. It’s not my fault this house is so ridiculous.”

“It is ridiculous. Let me help you.”

She sighed. “Fine.”

He offered her an arm and escorted her out of there. She noticed that he was looking at her as they walked through the front hall to the staircase.

“What?” she spat. “Do you disapprove because I don’t match the décor?”

Enzo paused.

“What did he do? Montanari?”

“You’re heading down the path to None of Your Damn Business City, Cavalcante.”

He continued: “I assume what he did was worse than me. You haven’t been that close to punching me yet.”

“He deserves it,” she said.

“I have no doubt he does. Nobody really likes him.”

“And yet, there he is at a fancy fucking party with everyone acting nice to him. No doubt, he’s finding new girls to fuck over.”

Enzo nodded, looking tired. They walked up the staircase in silence and then finally he said:

“That’s just how it is. The Montenaris have a great deal of weight in our circles.”

“Spare me the excuses and let’s find the damn painting.”

They were on the landing at the top of the staircase, with identical corridors stretching in both directions.

“I’d wager the painting is that way,” he said, pointing behind her. “It’s probably hidden away in a locked room until they’re ready to show it off to a select few people.”

Gina nodded.

“Well, then we had better start searching.” His eyes stayed fixed on her for a long time, and she finally asked: “Seriously, why are you staring at me?”

Enzo hesitated and said: “It suits you. The dress.”

“We’re going to find the painting. Now,” she said.

He repeated: “The painting, yes. This way.”

Author’s note: Hi guysssss, it’s yet another Saturday and it’s chapter time. I’ve been so damn excited about this chapter, if you can believe that. So excited, I didn’t even realise that this chapter is actually pretty short. Because of this, I decided to throw in some extra pictures. I had so many of that dance anyway, so why not! The dancing poses as well as the last set of Gina and Enzo arm in arm are of my own making. Since they didn’t come out too bad, you can expect to see those posted some time in the future – once I can be bothered to make them list compatible and such. Besides that, I don’t have much to say today. I’m really excited to hear your thoughts 🙂

Thanks for reading if you made it this far, and I’ll see you for the next post.

Cheers!

Ooh, I was juuust about to sleep but this popped up in my reader and I was too excited to postpone reading it. So many wonderful moments here~ First off, Doriano seems like – pardon my french – an ass; poor Regina really doesn’t have much luck with men, does she? What on earth does Flora have to do with their failed relationship?… Did he two time on Gina with her some time before she got together with Giuliano? I could be completely off the mark on that one, but I suppose he’d’ve had to have done something along those lines to have been pulverized by Gina’s fist. I hope he doesn’t do something dumb like blow her cover, because that would only make her job harder, but I suppose he wouldn’t unless there was something to be gained for him… other than a feeling of satisfaction. I enjoyed seeing Gina get lost, as expected, and have to tell Enzo he was right. 😆 I don’t blame you for staring, Enzo, Gina is looking mighty fine in that dress. Ahh, the subtle bits of romantic tension is continuing to brew for these two, and I can’t wait for their inevitable union. I loved, loved, loved the dancing photos, particularly how you stacked those three shots back to back~ so much eye candy :3 I’m looking to that posepack because I’m currently hunting for dance poses myself, so that shall be verryyyyy convenient and I can’t wait to steal them 😇 Loved this chapter and can’t wait to see the continuation of this party 😀 <3

He, he, I do enjoy robbing people of sleep. :’) I plan it this way! (Okay, I don’t, but let’s just pretend it’s on purpose).
I loved writing all of those moments. Doriano is, indeed, quite the asshole. What he’s done will become clear later on 😉 he’s not a very popular guy, for sure.
I think Enzo quite enjoyed her admitting that she got lost as well… he’s quite pleased to have a chance to hang around her 😉 I’m having the time of my life amping up the romantic tension.
My folder was just fullll of pictures like that, ha, ha :’D I enjoyed taking them a lot, as well as making the poses. I’d better get them out soon, so you can steal them <3 😀
Thanks for reading and commenting <3

Enzo to the rescue! He likes her! I can see somebody walk in and he kisses her as a cover. I hope so anyway. 😁

    maidenlissasims · September 8, 2018 at 11:09 am

Exactly what I was thinking! lol

    NotJustaBook · September 8, 2018 at 12:50 pm

He, he, indeed! I don’t think he would be much use in a physical fight, but he can definitely rescue you from embarrassing yourself! 😀

Jowita · September 8, 2018 at 10:58 am

Who’s that Doriano guy? One of Gina’s exes? He isn’t the father of Flora’s child, right? 😮
The pictures were a treat, as always. It was so good to see Gina and Enzo together and she totally doesn’t want to admit that she still likes him. Gina, darling, isn’t it just too obvious you do? And that house looks like it’s really easy to get lost in. I’m with Audrey here, maybe they can pretend they went off to find some quiet if someone walks in on them? Lol, it would be priceless!

    NotJustaBook · September 8, 2018 at 12:53 pm

Doriano has been mentioned before in the conversation between Gina and Flora. He’ll be mentioned again 😉 That’s all I’ll say!
After the apology, and especially after this, she’s certainly warming up to him 😉
I love the way you guys think – that would be pretty funny. Also potentially risky for Enzo, though. Like, how quickly do you think Gina would shoot him if he kissed her? Lol 😛
Thanks for reading and commenting, Jowita <3

twinsimskeletons · September 8, 2018 at 1:49 pm

I so look forward to each chapter of this story. Criminal stories are MY JAM even though I say this every time I’m sure!
I had a little computer note opened so I could comment as I read but then I, ah, forgot because I was so engrossed in your story. So really, this is your fault 😛
Ah, a shame that she didn’t punch Doriano though Enzo was right, it would end up badly for her in this particular setting. She’ll have to pay him a visit at a later date maybe, give him a boot up the goolies.
Don’t get distracted Enzo 😉

    NotJustaBook · September 8, 2018 at 2:41 pm

Aw, you are too kind <3 I'm going to blush now.
    I can't say I'm too upset about that 😛
He definitely deserves a punch, though Enzo is definitely right - there's a time and a place for beating people silly.
    Too late for that! 😛
Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Carys <3

Kymber · September 8, 2018 at 4:57 pm

This. Was. So. Good. I can totally see why you were excited about this chapter! Well done!

I love Gina’s inner dialogue. I’m also really loving her and Enzo right now. The tension between them is so delicious. I’m really glad the house is ridiculous and she got lost. hehe

    NotJustaBook · September 8, 2018 at 6:21 pm

Ah, I’m blushing. Thanks so much Kym. You’re too kind <3
I'm having so much fun writing these two and their chemistry, and it's just getting better and better.
If that house wasn't so ridiculous, Gina would have stayed away from him. Thank goodness for crazy rich people 😉
Another thank you for your kind words, Kym <3

Hmm… I’m still on the Regenzo ship… Thought I wasn’t anymore, but… *shrugs* things change 😁 think of the beautiful nooboos!! *sigh* and this from someone who doesn’t particularly like babies lol I don’t hate them, I just don’t really want to ever have to live with one…

    NotJustaBook · September 9, 2018 at 8:17 am

Oh no, Mags, you ended up in my spam folder! Good thing I managed to pull you out :O
He, he, I’m glad to hear you’re still on board 😉 There’s definitely a chance they’ll end up with very lovely babies. Not that I’m going to be spending any significant amount of time on them while they’re still babies (I don’t care to write about all that stuff).
    Thanks for commenting! <3

      magpie14031983 · September 9, 2018 at 10:21 am

Spam O_o why you hating on me WordPress T_T

I’m hoping gorgeous babies will equate to gorgeous teens and adults lol

        NotJustaBook · September 9, 2018 at 10:59 am

He, he, yeah, I was mostly think of them as teen adults. Younger than that and they look pretty same-y 😛

          magpie14031983 · September 9, 2018 at 12:23 pm

Yeah, the game does have a tendency to make all toddlers and kids look identical. It’s kinda annoying. Even in TS4 which is what I’m playing.

          NotJustaBook · September 9, 2018 at 12:55 pm

          Yeah, it’s annoying. It’s why I don’t do a lot of toddler/kids stuff anymore… that and I can’t be bothered to get/make poses for the buggers 😛

          magpie14031983 · September 9, 2018 at 4:56 pm

Lol I get bored with toddlers and kids (much like in RL lol) but that could also be because all they do in my games is play and skill and go to school and do homework… There isn’t really interesting stuff to do with them so much.

          NotJustaBook · September 9, 2018 at 4:59 pm

I’m pretty much always just waiting for my sims to age up to YA 😛 Teens ARE more interesting, I think, but if you want them to have good grades, they’ll be doing homework and school all the time, so I never enjoy playing them… Not that I play at all nowadays x)

          magpie14031983 · September 9, 2018 at 5:01 pm

True, although I have found that school is a bit easier to ace in TS4 so my teens get a lot of leeway. But, I usually end up making them skill their arses off so I can farm aspiration points lol

socallucyfan · September 9, 2018 at 9:01 pm

I am like: WOW!!! Everything about this chapter was captivating. I can totally feel Gina’s rage all the way from here, and I want to know all about it. It is very fitting how Enzo came and rescued her from making a big mistake. When all of this is over, I hope Gina gets another chance at Doranio. And Enzo is right; that dress suits her.
PS: you can never have too many pictures of these two.

    NotJustaBook · September 9, 2018 at 9:10 pm

Thank you so much <3 🙂 I loved writing that confrontation so much. You'll definitely know why she's so angry... eventually 😉
I think so, too. I don't think he'd be much good in a fight, but he can definitely save you from making a spectacle in public, lol 😀
    And I agree - can't stop photographing these two <3 🙂
Thanks so much for reading and commenting! <3

      socallucyfan · September 9, 2018 at 9:13 pm

I can see Enzo as the “lover not a fighter” type, while Gina is the “hit first ask questions later” type.
They very much balance each other out.

        NotJustaBook · September 9, 2018 at 9:46 pm

Definitely 😀 He’s better at navigating delicate social situations and Gina, to say the least, is not 😛

          socallucyfan · September 10, 2018 at 2:01 am

But if someone needs a punch in the face, then Gina is our girl!! 🙂

          NotJustaBook · September 10, 2018 at 7:12 am

          Oh you bet! 😀

Lila Remonn · September 10, 2018 at 11:36 am

Doriano the dickhead. That’s what I’m calling him from now on. It sounds like he was with Gina and Flora at the same time, or something similar — even without knowing, though, I wish Gina went ahead and punched that stupid face of his. But Enzo is right… *sigh*
Enzo was ever so sweet in this chapter, what a gentleman. Look at Gina still trying to deny that she likes him, it’s hilarious 😂
I thought along the same lines as some other people, that they could end up kissing as an excuse to be sneaking around the house, LOL. Mostly because this chapter reminded me of a very old storyline version in my own legacy. Cherry and Gabriel went to a ball at the mansion of who they suspected might be the serial killer, to investigate him further. And to not be caught in the wrong place, they ended up kissing lmao.
Awesome chapter as always <3

    NotJustaBook · September 10, 2018 at 1:04 pm

That’s a good name for him 😛 You’re on the right track with what you’re thinking. Indeed, she should have landed that punch. It just wasn’t the best timing 😛
    Delicious, delicious denial 😀
Oh my god. It’s like, everyone expects that. I’m not going to divulge what happens (obviously) but I think I’ll disappoint xD ahahah!
    Thank you, Lila <3

sempreviva · September 14, 2018 at 10:15 am

Oh my, I’m soooo late!!! :'( I’m so sorry (I had an eye surgery – well, eyes lasered but I guess I’m being dramatic lmaoo – and couldn’t read anything for about a week, even though I desperately tried to)! But I’m here now! 😉
Doriano seems like a total dick… I wouldn’t mind Gina punching his face to a pulp again, haha. I wonder what happened with him. Did he date both her and Flora at the same time? Well, at least Gina and Enzo are bonding over the fact that they both totally hate his ass so that’s something! 😉 And hmmm, did I just see Gina letting her guard down around Enzo juuust a little bit? There’s no point denying it girl – you like the rich boy! XD Well I can’t blame her – he was so sweet in this chapter <3
Can I just say that I am mind blown over your pictures? I love the depth and the way those background characters appear all blurred out! Seriously, I could just stare at them for hours. And it's making me so jealous that I don't have ReShade, haha; I decided that I might give it a shot though, I hope it doesn't totally fry my graphics card – wish me luck! 😀
It was a great chapter as always – and the good thing is I won't have to wait long until the next onw comes out! 😉 <3 <3

    NotJustaBook · September 14, 2018 at 3:58 pm

Aw, no worries, friend 🙂 I’m glad to receive a comment whenever you have the time – there’s no rush! <3
He's pretty much a dick, yeah 😀 he's definitely connected to both Flora and Gina 😉
She's definitely softening up to him, that's for sure! And I do think he's quite nice here.
Aww, thank you so much <3 🙂 The blurring is pretty deliberate on my part - didn't want anyone to see how little effort I put into the background sims :') I wish you good luck on using ReShade! Hopefully there will be no fried graphics cards!
There are definite perks to being fashionably late 😉 Thanks for reading and commenting, Sempreviva <3
