Hi guys!

I know I post entirely too much as of late, but I thought it was high time I finally gave you my first custom object download. (Yikes!) If you’ve been following me on Tumblr or saw the photo in one of my recent posts, you’ll know I’ve made a little notebook. I’ve added an alternate version of that notebook and I’ve made a pencil as well and that’s my first upload for you guys. I hadn’t thought about it, but it is sort of appropriate for a blog that’s mostly to do with writing yeah?

Notebooks

  • 4 presets – 3 for each with leather texturing, one plain version that doesn’t have a texture, just a plain surface
  • 3 recolourable channels
    • Cover
    • Pages
    • Ribbon bookmark + button (button only in the non-overlay versions)
  • Polycount is fairly high, not ridiculously so but more than EA’s own clutter objects, so be careful with spamming them if your computer isn’t up to snuff
    • Leather Notebook: 1210 (high), 682 (medium)
    • Leather Notebook with Clasp: 1670 (high), 940 (medium)
  • Proper LOD’s (meaning it won’t suddenly look like a plant at a distance)
  • Proper sun shadow (bring it with you outside!)
  • No occlusion shadow (it won’t cast dark shadows )

I know you can’t tell the difference between the last two presets because I chose a dumb pattern (I based it on a notebook I owned lol), so here’s a little picture so you can actually tell what’s going on. Basically one version has a texture which I think looks super nice, but you never know if you need a no-texture version so there’s one of those, too:

Pencil

  • 3 presets, two with text overlays, one without
  • 2 recolourable channels
    • Pencil body
    • Pencil Cap
  • Polycount is on the higher side for an object this small, so always be mindful about spamming them. It’s about on par with a small EA clutter object, I’d say.
    • Pencil: 256 (high), 132 (medium)
  • Proper LOD’s (meaning it won’t suddenly look like a plant at a distance)
  • Proper sun shadow (bring it with you outside!)
  • No occlusion shadow (it won’t cast dark shadows )

The NJB Office Supplies one is a little bit silly. I decided to use my initials because I don’t like using real brands. But hey, there are the plain versions so you don’t have to subtly promote me. 😛

Known Issues

Nothing big here – they’re deco objects, which means that they don’t really have a ton of issues to think of. They’re fully recolourable and mostly I think they work pretty well with patterns, as you can see from the previews. There’s a small asterisk to add, though. The notebook was A PAIN to UV map and it shows a bit on the edge as this picture shows:

I honestly felt like it’s so minor and at times impossible to see, so I didn’t fix it. Howeverrrr, in the interest of transparency, just know: It’s not perfect and textures will be distorted a bit on that part, so, yeah!

Terms of Use

You may:

  • Edit them to suit your own needs
  • Convert them to other games
  • Share those edits/conversions

Please avoid:

  • Sharing unedited versions (it’s a waste of time man, they’re not that great)
  • Putting any versions behind paywalls/adfly

Besides this, I like credit – it’s nice, so feel free to give me some of that. I also ask that you let others freely edit your edited versions. I share things that I make because I want to contribute to the community that I’ve been a part of for a long time now. This community wouldn’t be anything without the things we create and share and I’m 100% for taking that creativity further by building on my work.

That said, I know people will probably disregard this – the Internet is a cesspool. Do your worst.

Download

You can choose to download the files as .sims3pack. You get a .zip that contains:

  • The three objects in the file format you chose
  • A preview pic
  • A textfile with info about the objects

See ‘Note on .Package Files’ for the .package versions.

A Note on .Package Files

For most of the time I’ve been doing CC, I’ve been exporting a .package file directly from tsrw rather than exporting a .sims3pack and converting that to a .package. Unfortunately, I somehow didn’t realise that the process of converting to .sims3pack compresses the file, making it much, much smaller in size. In some instances, my .package files are therefore 10 or 20 times bigger than their .sims3pack counterparts.

Obviously, they still work, but they take up a lot of space on your computer and I don’t recommend using these old .package files. Below is a folder containing compressed versions of the files that I had uploaded in uncompressed versions. This only counts for the .package. If you want to download a .sims3pack version, simply follow the regular download link above. And otherwise, use the links pasted below. I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused by this!

Thank You for Looking!

I’m really happy to finally be sharing these, but obviously I’m also terrified. I hope you’ll bear with any minor issues these might have – they’re bound to have flaws, since I’m so new at them. That said, if you find any issues with them, please say the word and I’ll take steps to correct it ASAP.

With all that said, I thank you for checking this out. Have fun and I’ll see you in the next post.

Cheers!

Thank you Jowita! 😀 He, he, I thought it was a cute idea at the time, even if it’s sort of shameless self-promotion!

You put a lot of work into this! I don’t make objects so I am not sure what you are indicating in known issues. Thank you for this object!

    NotJustaBook · February 29, 2020 at 6:08 am

Ah, it’s just because the pattern is very, very slightly distorted. It’s just that some of the dots on the edge of the book show up weird – seriously a very small issue, I just like being transparent, he, he. 🙂

Just perfect! I so love clutter!

Thank you. 😀 I feel the same!
